Install and first start
Install RoomCaddie for your Windows account, enter your key once, and update or uninstall it later.
Updated in 1.7.1
What it does
You install RoomCaddie for your own Windows account, so you do not need to be an administrator. The first time you open it, it fills the screen and asks for your key before anything else. After you enter your key, the setup wizard builds your room.
Before you start
- Have your purchase email ready. Your key is under RoomCaddie key.
- The PC needs an internet connection once to check your key.
- If the PC does not already have Microsoft's WebView2, the installer downloads it, which also needs an internet connection.
Step by step
Install RoomCaddie
- Download the installer from roomcaddie.com. Its name starts with "RoomCaddie_" and ends with "_x64-setup.exe".
- Double-click the installer. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click "More info", check that the publisher is Exit 2 Software LLC, then click "Run anyway".
- Follow the pages in the installer. On the last page, leave "Create desktop shortcut" checked if you want a shortcut on your desktop.
- Finish the installer. It can open RoomCaddie for you; after that, open it from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut.
Enter your key
- RoomCaddie opens to "Your RoomCaddie key".
- Paste or type the key from your purchase email. It is 36 characters with dashes.
- Check the name in the This PC box. This is the name recorded for this PC under your key; you can change it to a name up to 60 characters long.
- Press Check key → or Enter.
- When the store accepts your key, the screen shows "Licensed on this PC" and "You won't be asked again."
- Press Next: set up the room → to start the setup wizard.
Install a newer version over an older one
- Run the newer installer. It finds your installed version and shows "Updating keeps your room, your pictures, your backups and your key."
- Leave "Keep my room and update (recommended)" selected and continue.
Choose "Uninstall the old version first (only if support asks you to)" only when support asks you to.
Uninstall RoomCaddie
- Uninstall RoomCaddie from the list of installed apps in Windows.
- To remove your room, pictures and backups too, check "Delete the application data". Leave it unchecked to keep them for a later install.
Uninstalling also removes RoomCaddie from the programs that start when you sign in to Windows.
Settings
| Setting | Where | What it does | Default |

Good to know
- RoomCaddie fills the screen. There is no window to resize.
- You see only the key screen and its ? help until the store accepts your key.
- One key covers up to three of your own PCs.
- After your key is accepted, RoomCaddie confirms it with the store each time it checks for updates. A week without internet changes nothing; RoomCaddie tries again the next week.
- If this PC ran RoomCaddie 1.0, which needed no key, RoomCaddie asks for your key once on a screen over your room. Your room stays saved behind the key screen; press Open my room → when your key is accepted.
- On that screen, Exit RoomCaddie lets you close RoomCaddie without entering a key.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| "That doesn't look like a RoomCaddie key" | Check the key in your purchase email. It is 36 characters with dashes. Nothing has changed. |
| "The store doesn't know that key." | Compare the key with your purchase email, character by character, and try again. |
| "RoomCaddie needs the internet once, to check your key, and nothing answered just now." | Connect the PC to the internet. RoomCaddie tries again automatically every 30 seconds and shows a countdown; press Try now to try right away. |
| "This key is already on 3 PCs, which is its limit." | On a PC you no longer use, press Deactivate this PC… in Settings > RoomCaddie > License. If that PC is gone, email [email protected] and say which PC to remove from your key. |
| "This key was refunded or disabled" | Your key no longer opens RoomCaddie. RoomCaddie costs $49 at roomcaddie.com. |
| "That key is for something else, not RoomCaddie." | Find the RoomCaddie key in your purchase email. |
| "RoomCaddie couldn't confirm its start-with-Windows setting after this install" | Open RoomCaddie once; it tries again each time it starts. If it still does not start with Windows, copy the support info under Settings > Help > Support info. |
| "Failed to install WebView2!" | Connect the PC to the internet and run the installer again. |
