Updates

What it does

RoomCaddie tells you when a newer version is ready and what changed, and you install it yourself. Nothing downloads or installs on its own: a newer version is only a link. After you update, a card lists everything that changed.

Before you start

• You need the internet to check for updates. Without it, nothing changes.
• Updating keeps your room, your pictures, your backups and your key.

Step by step

Update when the notice shows

1. The notice on the home screen says "RoomCaddie" and the new version "is ready", and lists what changed.
2. Press Get it. The download page opens in a browser window.
3. Download the installer and run it over your current version. Follow the steps in the Install and first start chapter.
4. When RoomCaddie opens again, read the Update successful card and press Got it.

Put the notice off

1. Press Not now on the notice.

The notice stays hidden for that version. You can still find the link in Settings > Updates.

Check by hand

1. In the editor, press Settings… and find the Updates row.
2. Press Check for updates.
3. If a newer version is available, press "Get" and the version number to open the download page.

Good to know

• RoomCaddie checks automatically when it starts: once a week, and on the first start after an update. It waits while a program monitored by RoomCaddie is running or a tile is starting, then checks when that ends.
• The check reads one small file from roomcaddie.com. It sends only "RoomCaddie" and its version number.
• Your room stays exactly as it is until you install the new version.
• If you are more than one version behind, the notice tells you how many updates there have been since your version.
• If you skipped versions, the Update successful card lists the changes in each one.
• The card waits until you reach the home screen. The notice for the next version appears after you press Got it.

If something goes wrong

What you see	What to do
"roomcaddie.com didn't answer"	There is no internet connection at that moment, or the site is down. Nothing has changed. Press Check for updates later.
"The notice shows again next time."	RoomCaddie couldn't save Not now. The notice stays hidden for now and returns the next time RoomCaddie starts.
"The card shows again next time."	RoomCaddie couldn't save that you saw the card. It appears once more the next time RoomCaddie starts. Press Got it again.
