Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting: what a tile's launch messages mean, restarting RoomCaddie, leaving it for the Windows desktop, and when to write to support.

Updated in 1.7.1

What it does

When something goes wrong, RoomCaddie shows a line on the screen explaining what happened. This chapter explains the messages you may see when a tile does not start, how to restart RoomCaddie or leave it for the Windows desktop, and when to contact support.

Before you start

  • Read the whole line on the screen first. It names the tile and gives the reason.
  • Each chapter ends with a table of messages. This chapter covers messages that do not belong to a single chapter.

Step by step

Restart RoomCaddie

  1. In the editor, press Settings….
  2. Under Restart RoomCaddie, press Restart….
  3. Press Restart.

RoomCaddie closes and reopens in a few seconds in the same room. Anything running keeps running.

Leave RoomCaddie for the Windows desktop

  1. In Settings…, under Exit to Windows, press Exit….
  2. Press Exit, or Stay to keep RoomCaddie open.
  3. To return, open RoomCaddie from the Start Menu or the desktop shortcut.

Anything running keeps running.

Ask support for help

  1. In Settings…, press Copy support info.
  2. Paste it into an email to [email protected] and describe what you saw.

The Support and refunds chapter explains what the support info includes and what support covers.

Good to know

  • Before RoomCaddie starts a tile, it checks what the tile needs. If it cannot finish the check, it starts nothing.
  • A tile's line in the editor says "Untested" after any change to what it launches or how it ends.
  • Ctrl+Alt+Q is the emergency exit. It closes RoomCaddie.
  • If RoomCaddie cannot read your saved room, it shows a safe screen and leaves the file unchanged. Restart RoomCaddie, or restore a snapshot from Settings > Backups. Backups has a snapshot from before every change. When you restore a snapshot or a backup file over a saved room that RoomCaddie cannot read, RoomCaddie first keeps the damaged file as damaged-<date-time>.json in the room's Backups folder so support can look at it.
