The setup wizard
The first-run wizard: name the room, tick what it is for, and RoomCaddie builds your home screen from what is on the PC.
Updated in 1.7.1
What it does
The setup wizard builds your first home screen. It asks how you use the room, checks what is installed on the PC, and creates a folder of tiles for each use you tick. It runs once, when you first open RoomCaddie, just after your key is accepted. When it finishes, the editor opens with your room already built.
Before you start
- Install the programs you want in the room first: your golf simulator, Steam games and streaming apps. The wizard finds what is already on the PC.
- The PC check is read-only. It reads your Steam library, installed programs and known golf simulator software. It never scans your files or goes online.
Step by step
Name the room
- On "Welcome to RoomCaddie", enter a room name of up to 40 characters, or tap one of the suggestions.
- Press Next →.
The name appears on your home screen and the idle screen. You can change it later in the editor.
Pick what the room is for
- On "What will you use this room for?", tick everything that applies: Golf, Games, Theatre, Music, Internet and Utilities, or Sports, Racing & Flight, Fitness and Family under "More rooms do these too:".
- Each use you tick becomes a folder on your home screen, in the order you tick them.
- Press Look around this PC →.
Check what RoomCaddie found
- RoomCaddie checks the PC, then shows "Here is what RoomCaddie found".
- The list includes everything it finds, even for uses you did not tick. Each row shows where the item goes.
- To add a use you did not tick, press its "Add a … folder" button beside "Also found:", for example "Add a GAMES folder".
- If something is missing, press "Something missing? Browse for a program…" and choose the program. It goes on the home screen.
- Press Next: fill the folders →, or Next → if you ticked only golf.
Point RoomCaddie at your golf program
If you ticked Golf and the wizard says "We didn't spot golf-sim software on this PC.":
- Press 📁 Point me at my sim software and choose the program. It becomes your GOLF tile.
- To add golf later, press Skip — I'll add it in the editor later.
Choose the golf program you play most
If RoomCaddie finds more than one golf program, it asks "Which golf do you play most?".
- Tap the one you play most. It appears first on the golf screen and is the program the test opens.
- Press Build my home screen →.
Your GOLF tile then opens a golf screen with all the golf programs. You can change their order later in the editor.
Fill each folder
The wizard shows one folder at a time, with its name and "what goes in it" at the top.
- Tap the items you want. Steam games are ticked to start with; untick any that do not belong in the room.
- Streaming services are unticked to start with because RoomCaddie never guesses which subscriptions you have.
- Press Next followed by the next folder's name, or Skip this folder to leave the folder out.
If nothing is ticked when you press Next, the wizard asks "Leave … out?". Press Leave it out, or tick an item.
Look at your home screen
- On "Your home screen is ready", you see a preview of the tiles.
- Leave Start when the PC turns on on so the room is ready when the PC is.
- Idle screen turns on the idle screen, which shows a large clock and the room's name after 10 minutes of inactivity. Press My photos… to show your photos behind it.
- Press Pick your look →.
Pick your look
- Choose a group of themes, then tap a theme. You see a preview on your actual home screen behind the card.
- Under "TILE NAMES SIT:", choose Bottom left, Bottom center, Centered, Top center or Under the card.
- Press Looks good →.
Test your golf tile
"Your room has a start" lists what RoomCaddie built and what it left out.
- Beside GOLF, press ▶ Test.
- Your golf program starts. Watch the screen.
- Answer "Did golf actually come up on the screen?" with ✓ Yes, it worked or ✗ No, something's wrong.
- Either answer takes you back to "Your room has a start". If the test shows a message instead, press ← Back to summary.
Only your answer marks the golf tile as working.
Finish
- Press Open the editor.
- The editor opens on the "Finish setting up" card, with a row for each folder and each use that was left out.
- Use + Add tile on a row to fill it, or press Done — show the room.

Good to know
- Only items you tick are added.
- Steam and Microsoft Store apps belong to each Windows account. Run the wizard on the account the room uses.
- Streaming apps found on the PC open as apps. The other services open full screen in their own window.
- Utilities offers 6 Windows panels: VOLUME, DISPLAY, SOUND DEVICES, CONTROLLERS, TASK MANAGER and SETTINGS.
- If your launch monitor starts your golf program automatically, the GOLF tile starts the launch monitor's software and lets it open the golf program. This keeps anything from starting twice.
- Press Esc to go back one step. You cannot go back from the key step.
- You can change everything the wizard sets later in the editor.
- The wizard runs only when no room is saved on the PC yet. To build a room again, use the editor.
