Phone remote for GSPro
Use your phone as a GSPro remote: switch it on, scan the tile's QR code once, then take mulligans, aim, check the scorecard and change club from the hitting mat.
New in 1.9.0Updated in 1.9.0
What it does
You can use your phone as a remote for GSPro. The Phone remote tile shows a QR code. Scan it once with your phone to open a page with buttons for mulligan, flyover, scorecard, club up and down, and aim. Each button presses GSPro's own key through RoomCaddie, so GSPro responds just as it does to the keyboard. The phone remote works with GSPro only.
Before you start
- The phone remote is off until you turn it on in Settings > Phone remote.
- While the remote is on, both the PC and your phone need an internet connection. Your phone can use Wi-Fi or cell data.
- You only need a web browser on your phone, such as Safari on an iPhone or Chrome on an Android phone. There is no app to install.
Step by step
Switch the phone remote on
- In the editor, press Settings…, then open Phone remote.
- Turn on the Phone remote switch. The status line reads "Connected" when RoomCaddie connects to the phone remote's server.
Add the Phone remote tile
- Open the editor and press + Add tile.
- Under What does it do?, choose Phone remote. This tile shows the pairing code and does not launch anything.
- Press Add tile. The tile is named PHONE REMOTE unless you enter a name first.
Pair a phone
- On the home screen, tap the Phone remote tile. The "Pair a phone" screen shows a QR code.
- Open your phone's camera, point it at the code and tap the link that appears.
- Your phone shows "Paired." and the PC's screen shows the phone's name, then closes automatically.
- Add the page to your phone's home screen to open it with one tap next time. On an iPhone in Safari, choose Share, then Add to Home Screen; on an Android phone in Chrome, open the three-dot menu, then choose Add to Home screen.
Each code lasts 2 minutes and works once. Tap anywhere on the PC's screen to close it sooner.
Use the remote during a round
- Make sure GSPro is on screen. The buttons press keys only when GSPro is the front window.
- Tap a button. After RoomCaddie presses the key, your phone's message line shows "Sent:" followed by the button's name.
- To take a mulligan, hold "Hold for mulligan" for 1 second. A quick tap does nothing, so an accidental tap never takes back a good shot.
- To aim, tap Left or Right to move one step, or hold to keep moving. Reset presses GSPro's reset-aim key.
Switch between RoomCaddie and GSPro from the phone
- Tap "Back to RoomCaddie" to bring the RoomCaddie home screen to the front, just like the Return shortcut.
- Tap "Back to GSPro" to bring GSPro to the front again. This never starts GSPro; if GSPro isn't running, your phone tells you.
Remove a phone
- In Settings > Phone remote, find the phone under "Paired phones" and press Remove.
- To remove every phone, press Remove all, then press Remove all again to confirm.
A removed phone stops working until it scans a new code from the Phone remote tile.
Settings
| Setting | Where | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phone remote | Settings > Phone remote | Connects RoomCaddie to the phone remote's server so paired phones can control GSPro. When it is off, RoomCaddie never contacts that server, and your phones stay paired. | Off |
| "Paired phones" | Settings > Phone remote | Lists each phone by its browser, such as "iPhone (Safari)", along with the day it paired, the day it was last used and Remove. | No phones |
Good to know
- You can pair up to 20 phones with one room.
- Your phone stays paired until you remove it, even when you turn the remote off and on again.
- While the remote is off, your phone's badge reads "Remote off"; when you turn it back on, the buttons work again without another scan.
- If the connection drops, your phone's badge reads "Reconnecting" and the page reconnects automatically.
- If your phone loses its connection while you hold an aim button, RoomCaddie releases the key within a second.
- The page's link contains your phone's pairing, so don't share it: the link controls the sim room until you remove that phone.
- If an already paired phone scans a new code, it keeps its single entry in the list.
- The phone page, its fonts and its buttons all go through the phone remote's server at relay.roomcaddie.com and nowhere else.
- A backup file does not include the switch setting or the pairings. On a new PC, turn the remote on and pair each phone again.
