Screens
Screens: put each program on the screen you choose, including programs RoomCaddie doesn't start, and see which screen is which.
Updated in 1.7.1
What it does
With more than one screen, you can give each program a tile opens its own screen: RoomCaddie moves the program there when it opens and keeps it there. RoomCaddie itself always stays on the main display. You can also choose a screen for programs RoomCaddie doesn't start, like a launch monitor's own launcher or a startup app. With one screen, nothing changes, and the editor shows no screen choice.
Before you start
- Turn on and connect every screen first. RoomCaddie lists the screens currently connected.
- RoomCaddie uses the screen Windows calls the main display. To change it, open Windows display settings, click the screen you want and select "Make this my main display".
Step by step
See which screen is which
- Open the editor and press Settings….
- Under Screens, the Screens on this PC row lists each screen by number and name and marks the main display.
- Press Identify screens. Every other screen shows its number for 5 seconds, and the main display shows its own number in a corner.
Put a tile's program on a screen
- In the editor, open the tile and find the program's card.
- Under Which screen, tap the screen you want. The line below tells you where the program goes.
To send the program to the main display the next time it starts, tap the screen marked "main". A window that is already open stays where it is. The card has its own Identify screens button.
Put a program RoomCaddie doesn't start on a screen
- Open the program as you normally do so its window is open.
- In RoomCaddie, open the editor and press Settings…. Under Screens, find the Add a program RoomCaddie doesn't start row and press Add….
- Under "1. Pick it from what's open right now", tap the program. Each row shows its name and where it comes from: its file name, the browser it runs in as an app, or "Windows app".
- Under "2. Which screen", tap the screen you want, then press Save.
From then on, RoomCaddie puts the program on that screen whenever it opens and keeps it there, no matter how it starts.
Change or remove a program's screen
- In Settings…, under Programs RoomCaddie doesn't start, find the program's row.
- Press Change screen…, tap the new screen and press Save. Or press Remove to have RoomCaddie leave the program wherever it opens.
Settings
| Setting | Where | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Which screen | A program's card in the editor | The screen the program opens on. | The main display |
| Programs RoomCaddie doesn't start | Settings > Screens | Up to 20 programs that open another way, each with its own screen. | None |
Good to know
- If you drag a program somewhere, it stays where you put it until it closes. The next time it opens, it returns to its screen.
- If a program's screen is off or unplugged, the program opens on the main display, and a note tells you why. As soon as the screen comes back, RoomCaddie moves the program there.
- If a program keeps moving itself off its screen, RoomCaddie tries five times to move it back, then stops and tells you.
- A program with no screen selected opens maximized on the main display. Three are left alone: a window that already fills the main display, a game that runs its own full-screen window, and the main golf program.
- RoomCaddie remembers an ordinary program by its file name. It remembers an app like Netflix by the app itself, not the browser it runs in, so your other browser windows never move.
- The Display, Volume, Sound and Settings tiles all open the same Windows Settings window. The tile you tap last puts that window on its screen. With no screen selected, Windows decides where it opens.
- A step that opens File Explorer or another Windows window has no screen choice. Windows decides where it goes.
- If a tile also opens a program from Programs RoomCaddie doesn't start, the program uses the tile's screen when the tile opens it.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| RoomCaddie opens on the wrong screen | Set the screen you want as the Windows main display, as described in Before you start. |
| A greyed row in the Add… list | The window is part of another program, like a website in a browser, so RoomCaddie can't move it on its own. Make the website a tile and choose its screen under Which screen. |
| The program isn't in the Add… list | The list only shows programs with a window currently open. Open the program, press Cancel, then press Add… again. |
| "isn't connected right now" | That screen is off or unplugged. Turn it on. Until then, the program opens on the main display. |
| "RoomCaddie can't tell which" screen "you picked" | RoomCaddie can't tell two identical screens apart. Pick the screen again under Which screen, or use Change screen…. |
| "kept moving off" its screen, "RoomCaddie stopped moving it back" | The program moves itself. Check the program's own settings for a screen or full-screen choice. |
